The Month of LUV: Protecting Vulnerable Lives Together
In honor of Valentine’s Day — aka the International Day of LUV — and our 20th anniversary, we’re celebrating the compassionate love that transforms lives this February. This tradition reflects the heart of Lift Up the Vulnerable: caring for vulnerable orphans and widows in their distress; especially those at-risk to human trafficking.
This month, we’re on a mission to raise $20,000 to protect 10 women from exploitation and empower them to lead as changemakers in their own lives and communities. This effort will improve the lives of an estimated 90 additional people — along with hundreds of children already in our programs.
Mary’s Journey: A Story of Resilience and Hope
Mary’s story exemplifies the ripple effect your love and generosity creates. Enslaved in South Sudan, she faced unimaginable horrors, including the loss of several children and severe burns that left her permanently scarred. Despite the devastation, Mary sought safety and found hope for herself and her son through Lift Up the Vulnerable’s anti-trafficking network.
With our network’s support, she underwent corrective surgery, received safe housing, and launched Mary’s Cross, a micro-enterprise that brought her financial independence. Today, she mentors other women, teaching them skills to build brighter futures. She also serves on staff with one of LUV's network centers, providing care for vulnerable children in our program. Her youngest son graduated from our high school in 2022, a testament to the transformative impact of your support. Mary’s service leaves a legacy of compassion.
